The Dreaded Popularity Contest
Definition of a popularity contest: a contest or situation in which the person who wins or is most successful is the one who is most popular rather than the one who is most skillful, qualified, etc.
A popularity contest is a real or hypothetical contest in which the sole criterion for winning is how many votes one gets, such that the winner is the most liked contestant.

Life is one huge popularity contest.
I have never won.
I'm finally deciding to look up from the bottom of my losses and admit it fully and out loud.
I am not popular. I never will be. I am definitely not the most liked.
When it comes to people my age, it only matters who has the most followers on social media, the most "likes," the biggest clique.
The most friends.
I have never had any of those things.
I am writing this out of discouragement due to a recent loss of a popularity contest, one I hoped and prayed I would win.
I found out today, after a whole week of praying, hoping, and more praying -
that I lost.
I knew I wouldn't win when I saw who I was up against. It was just me and this other person.
The organizers decided a vote would be best, rather than just letting both of us have equal parts.
I knew then I was doomed.
Am I hurt? Yes. Am I angry? No. Do I feel put out? A little.
I feel like this is the ultimate popularity contest loss.
But I must remember there will always be more popular people than me.
Therefore, there will always be more popularity contests.
I must realize God will bless me with further opportunities to showcase my talents given by Him.
Accepting this loss, I move on.
